Comics
Everyone needs a good laugh. That is why I like to draw comics. I have been working on this comic strip for 7 years now and I was the cartoonist for my high school newspaper for 3 years.
The Bully's Choice
The comic is based on the life of the main character, Punk (Yes, I know, it's an odd name, but I came up with the character when I was 12, and the name stuck). Because of his stature, Punk is picked on by various bullies and is constantly finding clever ways to evade them. When his methods fail, he is helped by his upper class friends. Punk gets himself into trouble as often as trouble happens to find him, whether it is taunting, making smart remarks, or a clever scheme that goes awry. He constantly annoys his math teacher when he daydreams off into the imaginary Adventures of the Courageous Captain Zodiak, although he claims it spontaneously happens under "extreme circumstances of boredom".
I hope to publish these in a newspaper eventually, but for now I am pleased with doing them for the school newspaper.

Spaced Out
This is a pen and watercolor comic that I did my sophomore year of high school. This comic won the Gold Seal at State Visual Arts Scholastic Event (the highest award in this contest), and received a Gold Key award from Scholastic. This was the first major story featuring the space faring hero, Captain Zodiak.
The Adventure begins
Medium: Water color and prisma color pencils
Date: Feb 2012
This is the first of four art pieces that are one extended story of the Adventures of Captain Zodiak.
In part one, Captain Zodiak has arrived at Mars because of suspicious enemy activity. An enemy fighter shows up out of nowhere and causes Zodiak's stabilizers to lock down. Thankfully our hero is able to override the lock down and land safely.

The Search
Medium: Water color and prisma color pencils
Date: Mar 2012
In part two, we join our hero as he lands on Mars. He scans the surface for signs of an enemy base, but finds nothing for miles around. Suddenly two enemy speed fighters that had somehow evaded the scanner chase Zodiak and corner him against a cliff. A blast from one of the fighters forces him to take his chances and jump. However, there is a ledge below, and Captain Zodiak climbs to the chasm floor, where he suspects he is being watched.

Ambushed
Medium: Water color and prisma color pencils
Date: April 2012
In part three, Captain Zodiak is ambushed by his enemy's accomplices and before he can discover their strategy, he realizes that they have chased him into a labyrinth of rocks. He has no other choice but to follow his instincts, but he nearly gets caught in a trap and it delays him long enough to get him captured. Taken to a secret hideout, Zodiak discovers that his adversary is the vile Arguz, a notorious villain.

The escape
Medium: Water color and prisma color pencils
Date: May 2012
In part four of this adventure, Captain Zodiak is being interrogated by the vile Arguz, who threatens to torture him if he doesn't talk. Zodiak remains absolutely still until Arguz presents him with his choice; torture or betrayal. His choice; neither. Zodiak takes Arguz by surprise, and escapes before he can recover. Just at the closing of our hero's journey, Mr. Johnson, Punk's math teacher, drops a textbook on his desk, snapping him back to reality.

Scholarship Comic
This is a comic I did for a scholarship for the Savannah College of Art and Design. The comic was drawn in pen and colored digitally in Adobe Photoshop. All characters are original and were designed by me. Unfortunately I did not win the scholarship, but the comic was selected as a finalist, which is a pretty good achievement. Also, the comic won a medal at State Visual Arts Scholastic Event. The theme was "My art can change the world". Here is a quick description:
Deep in outer space, the planet Orez has been overrun by a cyborg race called the
Zoiid. Galactic agent Captain Zodiak and his partner Commander Zulio have landed
on the planet to find out why the planet has suddenly become isolated. But when
plans go awry and horrifying truths are revealed, Captain Zodiak must face the
horrors of the great unknown and save the planet from its ultimate
doom.
The theme "My art can change the world" ties into the comic story with the fact that
the space explorer and the writer's story have a seemingly parallel structure.
Both protagonists are faced with daunting opposition that they must overcome,
despite their fear of the unknown or the aftermath. I want my artwork to be not
only entertaining, but I want it to have an encouraging message and a positive
effect on the life of the reader or viewer.
